EPL: Chelsea set to make £48m bid for Radamel Falcao

London, Dec 14: Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is ready to spend a whopping £48 million in transfer fees and offer £10m-a-year wage package to lure the 'best striker in the world' Radamel Falcao to Stamford Bridge.

The Colombia hitman has been the Blues top target since last season and the club are determined to make him one of the top earners in English football.

Falcao, 26, is expected to earn around £200,000-a-week which is much higher than current striker Fernando Torres and seniors like Frank Lamapard and John Terry.

Torres, who has not made any impact since his £50million move from Liverpool, is under pressure despite the arrival of fellow Spaniard Rafa Benitez and could join his boyhood club Atletico Madrid in a swap deal with Falcao moving to Chelsea.

Atletico paid £38m to sign Falcao as a replacement for Sergio Aguero and now Chelsea are ready to break the bank with a £48m bid. Falcao has scored 16 league goals in 15 games including five in the 6-0 thrashing of Deportivo La Coruna.

The Blues are also linked with Real Madrid forward Gonzalo Higuain, Andre Schurrle and Brazilian Paulinho during the January transfer market.

While the likes of veteran Lampard and left-back Ashley Cole could leave the club either in January or at the end of the season. Chelsea have a policy of not renewing long-term contracts to players above the age of 30, which also includes defender and captain Terry.

Cole, 31, has been linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain but now champions Manchester City are looking to make a surprise bid in January. Lampard, 34, could stay in the Premier League with Arsenal hoping to sign the England international.
