EPL: Tevez strikes, Manchester City beats Chelsea

By Abdul Nisar
London, Sep 26: A stunning goal from the Argentine striker and new captain of the club helped the Manchester City to defeat the leading team Chelsea in English Premier League on Saturday, Sep 25.

This was the defending champions first lose in 2010 Premier League after winning their five opening league games. The game was largely devoid of goalmouth action, but was settled by Tevez's moment of individual brilliance in the 59th minute.

Tevez charged forward after collecting Yaya Toure's short pass on the halfway line, jinked right and then dispatched the ball through defender Ashley Cole's legs and in off the far post. The game was also a personal success for Tevez, comfortably City's most impressive performer since the start of last season, and a player clearly reveling in his new role as captain.

"Carlos is a fantastic striker and not only because he scored the goal. He fights every time, against big defenders, for every ball. And at this moment he is playing alone up front so it is not easy for him," said Manchester City manager Mancini.

"City is growing fast and will have a chance to win the title. But I also think we have the possibility to win the title again," said Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti after the match.
