EPL: Top 5 January transfer targets for Manchester United

Manchester, Dec 14: Sir Alex Ferguson feels he needs to strengthen his squad to keep them on top of the league. United have been always linked with the best players across Europe and here is a look at those top 5 players who could move in during the January transfer window.

Leighton Baines - Everton

Sir Alex Ferguson tried to sign the England left-back during the summer but instead chose to sign youngster Alex Buttner. But the Red Devils are still interested to sign the 27-year old who is in fine form this season helping Everton clinch fourth spot. United will try their best to try and sign Baines with a £15million offer next month.

Wesley Sneijder - Inter Milan

Tottenham entered the race to sign the Dutch midfield maestro but the Londoners could take a turn when it comes the players wage demands. Sneijder is in a dispute with Inter over his wages. The Italians are not willing to pay £6m-a-year but have agreed for around £4million. The Dutch man reportedly wanted nearly £250,000-a-week if he joined United last summer. But this time out, the Red Devils can negotiate the best deal for a player in his prime at 28 and a chance to play along side fellow countryman Robin van Persie.

Theo Walcott - Arsenal

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger admitted he is frustrated over contract rebel Theo Walcott. Premier League giants Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea are interested to sign the 23-year old winger but Manchester United have an advantage over the other clubs. United are planning to ditch winger Nani who has attracted Arsenal and the Red Devils could replace him Walcott. Both clubs can negotiate a swap deal in January.

Asmir Begovic - Stoke City

Ferguson is not satisfied having two goalkeepers David de Gea and Anders Lindegaard. De Gea, who was bought for over £17 million in 2011 from Atletico Madrid, is yet to play as per United standards while Denmark No. 1, Lindegaard, has had his share of ups and downs as United stopper. However, Ferguson is looking at other experienced options with Stoke No. 1 Begovic. The Bosnian has impressed over the past two seasons with the Potters and has emerged as one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League.

Wilfried Zaha - Crystal Palace

United are known to nuture young talented footballers into global superstars. Zaha is no exception given the growth he has had over the past year. The 20-year old also earned England cap during the friendly against Sweden. Zaha, gifted with pace and skill, has been targetted by all top clubs in the Premier League and it is onkly a matter of who bids highest and which club the players prefers to join. Palace boss Ian Holloway has slapped a £20 million price tag but a bid in the region of £10m-12m should be enough.
