EPL: Tottenham Hotspur vs Newcastle United Preview

Posted By:

London, Feb 8: Newcastle United earned their first back-to-back wins of the season, thanks to Alan Pardew's shopping spree during the January transfer market. But the Magpies travel to White Hart Lane where they were thrashed 5-0 last season.

Newcastle's french revolution has worked so far, with a comfortable win over Aston Villa and the incredible comeback against Chelsea. Moussa Sissoko was instrumental in both games and probably the best signing so far but Mathieu Debuchy, Yoann Gouffra and Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa are expected to be big hits.

Tottenham vs Newcastle United Preview

As Newcastle welcome players back to the squad, Tottenham have a clear problem with the lack of strikers upfront. Spurs managed to grab a narrow win against West Brom Albion last time out but that isn't the real problem. Andre Villas-Boas' team has scored three goals in their last four games in the top flight.

Their lack of strikers could seriously threaten their quest to claim a Champions League spot. Jermain Defoe limped off the game against West Brom and could be out for three weeks according to his manager while Emmanuel Adebayor is yet to return from the African Cup of Nations, even though Togo were beaten by Burkina Faso in the quarter-finals on Sunday.

Apart from Defoe and Adebayor, Spurs are without Sandro, who is ruled for the rest of the season, while Younes Kaboul returned to training after a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Newcastle welcome back midfielder Chiekh Tiote from the African Cup of Nations after Ivory Coast were shown the exit door by Nigeria. However, Pardew is unlikely to change his winning formation meaning Tiote has to settle on the bench.

Hatem Ben Afra, Danny Simpson, Ryan Taylor and Dan Gosling remain injured for Newcastle.

*Tottenham are unbeaten in their last nine Premier League games. Spurs have conceded only eight goals in their last 13 games.

*Newcastle have conceded 23 goals in their last 10 games.

*Newcastle have received the second highest number of yellow cards this saesaon.
