EPL Transfers: Rumours post summer transfer window
The analysts sport business unit suggested that Premier League clubs total expenditure was exactly £490m, £10m less than the record £500m in 2008 and above £485m spent during the summer in 2011.
Five major clubs Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham have crossed the £30m-mark during the transfer window. Transfers like Robin van Persie's £24 million move from Arsenal to Manchester United and the £32m transfer of Eden Hazard from Lille to Chelsea have been some of the major transfer deals.
Out of the £490m spent, £110m was spent during deadline day on Aug 31, £10m more than last year. Premier League champions Manchester City, who were quiet throughout the transfer season, splashed £40m on five players including a £16m move for Benfica midfielder Javi Garcia.
Other signings during deadline day saw newly promoted Southampton break their club-record fee of £15m for Bologna winger Gaston Ramirez and although Tottenham failed to sign Joao Moutinho, Andre Villas-Boas made a last ditch move for Lyon goalkeeper Hugo Lloris and Clint Dempsey.
Overall, about £300m of the total amount went abroad while £50m of it went to clubs in the Football League.
