EPL Transfers: Clubs that missed high profile players

London, Sept 4: Several big signings failed to complete after Premier League club's could not match their asking price or agree upon personal terms. Some high profile transfers were just too late to go through on deadline day of summer transfer window.

Liverpool failed to sign long term target Clint Dempsey from Fulham after offloading £35m striker Andy Carroll to West Ham Unite don loan. The Reds are believed to have offered £4m for the American forward. Tottenham hijacked Dempsey in a last-minute deal for £7 million.

Joao Moutinho had almost completed a £24 million move to Tottenham, but the deal could not be completed on deadline day. The 25-year-old was manager Andre Villas-Boas' top target to replace Luka Modric.

Chelsea failed to sign striker's Edinson Cavani and Hulk. Napoli were seeking nothing less than £40m for Cavani while FC Porto were demanding the same amount for Brazilian forward Hulk. But Russian giants Zenit St Petersburg signed Hulk for £39 million on Monday.

The European champions also made a last-minute move for Marsielle strike Loic Remy but the deal collapsed after Daniel Sturridge rejected a loan move to Liverpool.

Premier League clubs were also keen on Athletic Bilbao striker Fernando Llorente and midfielder Javi Martinez, who later joined Bayern Munich. Llorente, 27, was being chased by Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea but all backed out due to Athletic's high asking price of £25m.

Liverpool missed out on signing Bologna winger Gaston Ramirez who joined new boys Southampton for a club record fee of £15 million. The Reds were also linked with a shock move for Arsenal winger Theo Walcott.

Champions Manchester City missed out on signing Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi but signed Javi Garcia from Benfica on deadline day.
