Erling Haaland's decisive goal secured Manchester City a crucial 1-0 win against Tottenham, boosting their chances for a top-four finish. Following a loss to Liverpool, City was 20 points behind the leaders. Chelsea's victory over Southampton further pushed them out of the top four. However, City's strong first-half performance in north London saw Haaland convert Jeremy Doku's cross after 12 minutes.

Returning from a knee injury that sidelined him against Real Madrid and Liverpool, Haaland made an immediate impact. He scored his 20th league goal this season by placing Doku's cross into the bottom-left corner. This achievement makes him only the second player, after Ruud van Nistelrooy, to score 20 goals in each of his first three Premier League seasons.

Despite City's dominance in the first half, Tottenham improved significantly after halftime. Mathys Tel and Brennan Johnson missed opportunities, while substitute Son Heung-min was thwarted by Ederson at the near post. In stoppage time, Haaland had a potential second goal disallowed due to handball after a VAR review.

Manchester City now trails third-placed Nottingham Forest by just one point. They are set to face Forest in their next league match. Meanwhile, Tottenham remains in 13th place with 33 points following this defeat.

Doku was instrumental in creating chances during the first half. His crosses found Savinho and Haaland in promising positions, but Savinho missed an open chance and Guglielmo Vicario saved Haaland's attempt from close range.

Haaland's Record-Breaking Feats

Haaland has now scored more winning goals (25) than any other player since joining the Premier League in 2022. Only Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling have scored more winners for City overall. Additionally, he has been prolific in London with 18 goals and two assists in 19 matches.

Pape Sarr had a late chance to equalise for Spurs but headed over in the final moments of stoppage time. This miss ensured City's narrow victory remained intact as they continue their pursuit of a higher league position.
