Euro 2024: All the Records Set and Broke In Germany - Youngest Goalscorer to Oldest Player

The one-month-long European Championship 2024 concluded at the Olympiastadion in Berlin as Spain lifted the trophy for a record fourth time beating England on Sunday (July 14).

This edition of the European Championship has seen numerous records being shattered and set. Now, let's explore some of the noteworthy records:

Euro 2024 Records

Individual Records

Youngest Player: Lamine Yamal (Spain)

The young teenager from Barcelona became the youngest player to appear in this tournament as Spain took to the pitch against Croatia. Lamine was 16 years and 338 days old at that time and broke the record of Poland’s Kacper Kozlowski.

Youngest Scorer: Lamine Yamal (Spain)

Yamal made another record of being the youngest player ever to score in the Euro when the prodigious baller scored against France in the semi-final in a 2-1 victory for Spain.

Yamal also joined an exclusive club of three players who have at least one goal contribution in Euro in their teenage years. The other two members of this list are Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Oldest Player: Pepe (Portugal)

Pepe made the record of being the oldest player to play in the European Championship when he took to the field against Czechia at the age of 41. In the Quarter-final against France Pepe was 41 years 130 days old and broke the record of Hungary goalkeeper Gabor Kiraly who was 40 years 86 days old against Belgium in Euro 2016.

Oldest Scorer: Luka Modric (Croatia)

In the match against Italy, the Real Madrid star Luka Modric became the oldest scorer in the history of this tournament, when he scored the equaliser in a 1-1 draw. He broke the record of Ivica Vastic of Austria.

Most Appearances: Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal)

It was the sixth Euro for the Portuguese legend with his first appearance in Euro 2004. Ronaldo now has the record for appearances in 30 matches of this competition which is the highest and at least seven more than any other player.

Though the Portugal skipper made the record for highest appearances, he missed out on the opportunity to become the oldest scorer as he failed to score any goal in Euro 2024 and missed out on the chance to convert a penalty into a goal against Slovenia.

Fastest Goal: Nedim Bajrami (Albania)

In the match against Italy, Nedim Bajrami put Albania ahead by scoring the fastest goal in the history of the tournament in the 23rd second of the match. He broke the previous record of the fastest Euro goal of 67 seconds by Dmitri Kirichenko of Russia.

The record of the second fastest goal also had been made in this Euro as Merih Demiral of Turkey scored against Austria just after 57 seconds.

Team Records

Highest Number of Championships: Spain

As Spain won the final against England in a 2-1 thriller, they became the first-ever team to lift the trophy for the fourth time. Previously La Roja had won the European Championship in 1964, 2008, and 2012.

Second-most Own Goals

Euro 2024 had seen 10 own goals scored and it is the second highest for any Euro edition. In Euro 2020, there were 11 own goals, which is the highest till now.
