Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal crashed out of the Euro 2024 after a tiebreaker defeat against France in the quarterfinals on Friday (July 5).
After a goalless 120 minutes, the tie-breaker concluded the match in France's favour. Despite some excellent spot-kicks, Joao Felix's miss proved to be the telling blow for Portugal.

The Euro 2016 champions won their last match in the penalties against Slovenia but it was a contrasting outcome for them against Les Bleus. Cristiano Ronaldo, with Portugal's exit, also bid adieu to the Euros.
The Portugal legend said recently that this edition of the Euros will be his swansong and it ended in a dampening manner for him. The 39-year-old had a modest game and was visibly distraught after the match.
Ronaldo was seen crying during the match against Slovenia after his penalty was saved by Jan Oblak in extra time. The Portugal talisman ended up smiling on that night, but it wasn't the case for him in the quarterfinals.
After the match, Ronaldo had a huge sulk in body language. The Portugal legend didn't cry but was evidently distraught after the exit from the tournament. He was consoled by his teammates and others and then took a lonely walk into the tunnel.
Ronaldo, who holds multiple records in the Euros, thus has probably ended his stint in the Euros. The Portugal captain also ended up without a goal in the tournament, which happened for the first time in major competitions.
Along with Ronaldo, veteran defender Pepe also played his last match in the Euros. The duo were seen embracing each other after the match as Pepe had tears in his eyes. A tournament which started with a lot of promise ended up in an agonizing defeat for Portugal, which also ended an era.
