Euro 2024: Cristiano Ronaldo to Kylian Mbappe - How has the Stars performed in the Group Stages?

The Euro 2024 is set to enter its knockout stages as 16 teams remain for the championship race.

After action-packed group stages, the football world has witnessed the ebbs and flows of some scintillating football in the competition. From Georgia stunning Portugal to Croatia's shock exit - there has been no shortage of emotions in the tournament.

Euro Stars

But how have the stars fared in the Euros so far? A plethora of elite names in football have participated in the continental tournament. Many of them have done well, while a few have struggled so far. In this article, let's have a look at the 10 biggest stars and their performances in the group stages.

Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal)

The Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo is probably playing his last Euros. Although he has already made many records since the first match, Ronaldo's performance on the pitch has been disappointing. He has only one assist in the first three matches and will have to step up in the knockouts.

Kylian Mbappe (France)

Kylian Mbappe featured in only two matches during group stages. He broke his nose in the first match and thus didn't participate in France's second match against Netherlands. Mbappe played in the last match and also scored a goal for Les Bleus. He hasn't been at his best but the unfortunate injury played a big part in it.

Robert Lewandowski (Poland)

Poland's captain and striker Robert Lewandowski only played the final match against France. He missed the first two due to injury and his absence cost his nation big time. Lewandowski scored a goal against France which earned Poland a draw but they have been eliminated from the tournament.

Harry Kane (England)

England's Harry Kane played 250 minutes out of 270 in the group stages and managed 1 goal, which came against Denmark. The 30-year-old took 2.9 shots per 90 minutes with a conversion rate of 12.5 per cent. His lack of form was evident in England's performance as the Three Lions only managed two goals in the group stages.

Kevin De Bruyne (Belgium)

Kevin De Bruyne has been instrumental for Belgium in the Euros. He played central part in all of the three group stage matches for the Red Devils amid their underwhelming outing this year. The 32-year-old also scored a crucial goal in the 2-0 win over Romania.

Bruno Fernandes (Portugal)

Bruno Fernandes has had two influential matches for Portugal in the group stages. He played the full 90 minutes in both of those matches and got an assist in the Turkey match.

Toni Kroos (Germany)

Toni Kroos has showcased his class in the group stages with impeccable performances at the heart of Germany midfield. The veteran is set to retire from football after the Euros, which is a shocker given the way he is performing on the pitch. Kroos has orchestrated Germany's play with a 95.3 per cent passing accuracy, where he has also created 9 chances so far.

Virgil van Dijk (Netherlands)

Netherlands leaked five goals in the three group stage matches, which kind of depicts how Virgil van Dijk has fared in the Euro group stages. The Liverpool defender has to be much more commanding in the Dutch defence if they are to go deep into the tournament.

Lamine Yamal (Spain)

Lamine Yamal created history by becoming the youngest player to feature in the Euros. But it does suit to Yamal as the teenager has impressed in the biggest stage. Yamal got an assist in the very first match and then pulled off another impressive performance against Italy. The 16-year-old has honed his role perfectly and is expected to play a key part in the knockouts as well.

Bukayo Saka (England)

Bukayo Saka has had a very disappointing outing with England. The expectations were a lot on the Arsenal star but he has been one of the many English players who haven't got going in the Euros.
