Euro 2024: Former Arsenal and Barcelona player is the only Non-European coach in the Euros

The Euro 2024 is set to commence from June 14 as 24 teams across Europe will fight for the European glory.

The continental tournament will see a plethora of top coaches locking horns against each other with the aim to tactically outmanoeuvre each other. In the Euro 2024, Gareth Southgate, Ralf Rangnick, Julian Nagelsmann are among the high-profile names who will be on the tactical warfare in the Euros.

Italy has the most representations in terms of coaches with 5 coaches taking part in the tournament. Francesco Calzona (Slovakia), Vincenzo Montella (Turkey), Domenico Tedesco (Belgium), Marco Rossi (Hungary) and Luciano Spalletti (Italy) are the Italian quintet in this edition of the competition. Germany, Spain and France have two coach representatives each.

In this edition of the Euros, 23 out of 24 coaches hail from Europe, with only one exception. The solitary head coach who is a non-European is the Albania coach Sylvinho.

Who is Sylvinho?

Sylvinho is a former Brazil footballer who is the current coach of Albania. Sylvinho played for the likes of Arsenal, Barcelona and Manchester City during his playing days. He also played 6 times for Brazil at the senior level.

Sylvinho started his coaching career with Lyon back in 2019. Following that, the former Brazil player took charge of Corinthians. From 2023, he is the head coach of Albania football team.

On 2 January 2023, the Albanian Football Association confirmed Sylvinho as new head coach of the Albania national team with the

Sylvinho officially signed an 18-month contract on 9 January. His debut on 27 March saw Albania lose 1-0 away to Poland in a qualifier. Despite this, Albania secured a place at the finals with a 1-1 draw against Moldova on 17 November. Under Sylvinho's guidance, Albania recorded four wins, three draws, and one loss. They topped their group, surpassing the Czech Republic on head-to-head results and qualified for the Euro 2024.

Albania is slotted in Group B with Spain, Croatia and Italy in the competition. It will be a monumental achievement if they can qualify from this group and advance to the round of 16 of the Euro 2024.
