Carlos Alcaraz Completes Loan Move To Everton From Flamengo Amid Injury Concerns

Carlos Alcaraz has signed a loan deal with Everton from Flamengo until the season's end. With Premier League experience and recent injuries in the squad, he aims to provide much-needed depth.

Carlos Alcaraz has joined Everton on loan from Flamengo. The Toffees, currently in good form, have moved nine points clear of the Premier League relegation zone after securing three consecutive victories under David Moyes. Everton's manager sought to strengthen the squad during the winter transfer window, especially after injuries to Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Orel Mangala in a 1-0 win against Brighton on January 25.

Alcaraz, aged 22, previously played for Southampton in the Premier League. He joined the Saints in January 2023 and made his debut against Everton. Despite scoring four league goals, he couldn't prevent Southampton from being relegated. After impressing in the Championship early last season, Alcaraz went on loan to Juventus, where he made 11 appearances for the Serie A club.

Alcaraz Joins Everton on Loan from Flamengo

Everton managed only one signing during this transfer window, with Alcaraz joining until season's end and an option to buy included. "We're happy Carlos has agreed to join us on loan until the end of the season," said Moyes. "We've been looking to add players to the squad to give us more depth, particularly after the recent injuries we've picked up."

Brazilian champions Flamengo paid a club-record fee for Alcaraz at last season's end. However, he struggled to secure a regular starting position there. Moyes expressed optimism about Alcaraz's potential impact: "Carlos has Premier League experience, he's still young and we believe he can bring some energy to the team which will help us between now and the end of the season."

Meanwhile, Everton is positioned 16th in the Premier League standings, just above Wolves. Wolves were also active late in the transfer window but missed out on signing defender Kevin Danso to Tottenham. They did manage to acquire centre-back Nasser Djiga from Red Star Belgrade and bolster their midfield by bringing in Marshall Munetsi.

The addition of Alcaraz is expected to provide Everton with much-needed depth as they aim to maintain their current form and avoid relegation threats. His previous experience in England's top flight could prove valuable for Everton as they navigate through the remainder of this season.
