Everton has dismissed Sean Dyche just before their FA Cup third-round match against Peterborough United. The decision follows a poor run of form, with only one victory in 11 games and eight matches without scoring in their last ten. Their recent 1-0 loss to Bournemouth marked their eighth Premier League defeat this season, leaving them 16th in the standings, a single point above relegation.
Dyche's tenure at Everton began in January 2023 when he replaced Frank Lampard. He managed to secure the club's Premier League status on the final day of that season. Despite his efforts, this season saw Everton struggle offensively, managing only 15 goals, which is better than only Southampton's tally of 12. The team's inability to score was highlighted by their failure to register a shot on target against Bournemouth.

During his time at Everton, Dyche won 26 out of 84 matches. His win percentage of 30.95% is notably lower than his previous managerial stints at Watford and Burnley, where he achieved win rates of 34.69% and 35.06%, respectively. This season, Everton failed to score in a league-high 11 games, just one less than the previous campaign.
The former Burnley manager also faced challenges last season when Everton had eight points deducted due to breaches of the Premier League's Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR). Despite these setbacks, he managed to keep the team safe from relegation. However, this season has been tough, with Everton recording the lowest expected goals (18.3) in the league.
In terms of offensive play, only Wolves, Ipswich Town, and Leicester City have had fewer touches in the opposition's box than Everton's total of 388 touches. This lack of attacking threat contributed significantly to Dyche's dismissal.
Following Dyche's departure, Leighton Baines and Seamus Coleman will oversee first-team duties temporarily. They will be responsible for managing the team during Thursday’s game against Peterborough United.
The decision to part ways with Dyche reflects Everton’s urgent need for improvement as they aim to climb away from the relegation zone and enhance their performance in upcoming fixtures.
