Bengaluru, January 30: Everton manager Sam Allardyce is said to be interested in bringing Hoffenheim captain Kevin Vogt to Goodison Park as the English manager hopes to improve the defensive difficulties at the club.

Everton are winless since Christmas and lost four in their last seven matches. After the arrival of Allardyce, the team although have fought back to acquire a ninth spot in the table after relegation scare however they have been defensively exposed in most of the matches.

They have conceded the fifth most goals in the league and thus to solve the issues Allardyce has reportedly identified the 26-year-old as a potential signing.

Vogt has been a key player for Hoffenheim since arriving in the summer of 2016 from 1. FC Köln and now maintains the Captain's role in the team. He also was one of the standout performers of Hoffenheim backline which conceded the second fewest goals last season and secured a surprising fourth spot out of nowhere.

Seeing his impressive display and as a cover for their ageing defender Ashley Williams, who at 33 is entering the latter stages of his career, Everton have apparently approached the club over a last-ditch attempt to sign the player.

However, after losing a bunch of first-team players like Sebastian Rudy, Niklas Süle and Sandro Wagner to FC Bayern München in the last two windows, the German club will be reluctant to lose out on another star player.

Although a big transfer fee for the player could tempt the club to sell the player but with only two days left in the transfer window, it is unlikely the club can arrange a like to like replacement for the former Koln player who is still fighting for the Bundesliga side making them in contention for a European spot, who are sitting ninth in the table, only sixth points adrift of fourth-placed Frankfurt.

Apart from Vogt, Toffees have also been linked withe other defenders including Lille's Adama Soumaoro and Swansea City's Alfie Mawson but with such little time left it is very much unlikely any new signing will happen.
