Everton Secures Jake O'Brien From Lyon In £16.43 Million Deal

Jake O'Brien has joined Everton for £16.43 million from Lyon, signing a four-year deal. The Republic of Ireland defender aims to bolster Everton's defence for the upcoming Premier League season.

Jake O'Brien has officially joined Everton, marking their fifth acquisition of the transfer window. The Republic of Ireland defender moved from Lyon for a reported fee of £16.43 million, with the deal confirmed on Tuesday. O'Brien, who is 23 years old, signed a four-year contract and will bolster Everton's defence in the upcoming Premier League season.

"I'm buzzing and so happy to have signed for Everton," O'Brien expressed. "I've been dreaming of this kind of move in the Premier League, with such a historic club. It's a very exciting move for me."

Everton Signs O'Brien from Lyon

Last season, O'Brien made 27 appearances in Ligue 1 and scored five goals across all competitions. Notably, he netted one goal during Lyon's Coupe de France final against Paris Saint-Germain in May. His defensive prowess was evident as he kept seven clean sheets throughout his league outings.

O'Brien excelled in aerial duels, winning 44 out of 69 contested headers. This impressive statistic was only surpassed by his central defensive partner Duje Caleta-Car, who won 57 aerial duels.

Everton announced the signing on their official Twitter account: "We have completed the signing of Republic of Ireland centre-back Jake O’Brien from Olympique Lyonnais for an undisclosed fee. Welcome to Everton, Jake!"

O'Brien is eager to prove himself at Goodison Park. "When the transfer window opened there were other clubs in for me but there was only one club I wanted to go to—it was Everton," he said. "They've shown faith in me so now it's my turn to show why on the pitch."

The new addition aims to strengthen Everton’s defence and contribute significantly to their campaign. With his track record and determination, O'Brien is set to be a valuable asset for the Toffees.

The young defender's arrival adds depth and competition within Everton's squad as they prepare for the challenges of the new season.

O'Brien's enthusiasm and commitment reflect his readiness to embrace this new chapter at Everton, aiming to make a substantial impact both defensively and offensively.

The club and its supporters are hopeful that O'Brien will help solidify their backline and bring success in domestic competitions.
