New Delhi, May 13: Former Indian women's football captain Sona Chaudhury has come up with explosive revelations about coaches and officials harassing the players.
In her book 'Game in Game' released in Varanasi, Sona said the coach and secretary would ask their beds to be placed in the women players' rooms during foreign tours. The players' protest fell on deaf years, she alleged. She also added that such instances were rampant at the state level where regular sexual favours were sought in exchange for a chance to play.
Union Sports Minister Sarbananda Sonowal though said the government would not interfere into the work of the football federation but promised stern action in the matter if he received a written complaint.
Sona, who joined the women's football team in 1995 and became the captain teh next year, said 90 per cent of her book is based on facts while only 10 per cent could be called fiction. She said the book is about her experience in the game.
Sona's football career ended in 1998 after she suffered from knee and back injuries.
