Exclusive! Jeakson Singh asks for patience with new India coach Manolo Marquez at helm, says ‘we still have time’

The Indian football team have a new coach, Manolo Marquez at the helm after a tumultuous time since last year. His first and only game was against Mauritius in the Intercontinental Cup 2024 a few days ago which the Blue Tigers ended in a goalless draw. Fans certainly expected a lot more from this match.

Even so, in an exclusive interview with MyKhel, talented Indian football team and East Bengal midfielder Jeakson Singh asked for patience saying, "I feel we still have time and we are working on improving, and It's under our new coach. I think we just need to be patient. We'll try our best and try to keep working hard."

On improving away from home:

Since the start of last year, most positive results for the Indian football team came at home. They have not won even a single match on the road since the start of 2023. However, most important international matches, like the ones in the Asian Cup, FIFA World Cup qualifiers, and more are sure to be on the road.

Talking about it, Jeakson mentioned that the support of the home crowd has been the driving force for all the good results they've achieved so far. "We can work on a lot of things and we can improve and so that we can perform the same way we perform in our home to get positive results from away matches," Jeakson said acknowledging the improvements they need to make to get better results.

On improving himself:

One of the current India team's most reliable midfielders, Jeakson is also focused on getting better himself. He expressed that he wants to help the team both in defense and offense as much as he can. Jeakson knows his strength also lies in his physical strength and he means to improve more with that in both attack and defense.

India are set to face their toughest opponent in their last Intercontinental Cup 2024 match in Syria. Jeakson is expected to start that match again as he has done since he came back from an injury earlier this year which caused him to miss some crucial World Cup qualifiers and AFC Asian Cup games.
