Explosion at Iraq football match: 25 dead

By Devaki

Baghdad, May 15: 25 people died and 100 were left wounded in North Iraq, as a car bomb blasted during a football match. The suicide car bomb ripped through the football ground.

The incident happened around 1500 GMT while the second half of match between two local teams was going on, on Friday, May 14. The match was in an unprotected ground in Tal Afar, a predominantly Shiite Turkmen town. Tal Afar is 380 kms north of Baghdad.

“Many people were gathered to watch the match," says Hussein Nashad who attended the match. He was in hospital being treated for shock.

The other witnesses say that they could hear someone shouting 'Allahu Akbar', in between the two explosions.
