Manchester United have announced that midfielder Facundo Pellistri has permanently transferred to Panathinaikos. Pellistri, who joined United from Penarol in 2020 and made 25 appearances, has signed a four-year contract with the Greek club for a reported fee of £5.1 million.
The Red Devils have included a significant sell-on clause, believed to be 45%, and a buy-back option valid for three years. Pellistri spent the latter half of the 2023-24 season on loan at LaLiga side Granada, where he contributed to four goals, including one goal and one assist in a 3-3 draw against Barcelona in February.

During his loan spell at Granada, Pellistri showcased his abilities by being involved in four goals. Notably, he scored once and assisted another in a thrilling 3-3 draw with Barcelona last February. The 22-year-old also represented Uruguay at this year's Copa America, playing in all matches as La Celeste secured third place.
Upon returning to Manchester United, Pellistri came off the bench to play 31 minutes in their Community Shield match against Manchester City. This penalty shootout defeat marked his final appearance for the club. "A creative spark with a tireless work rate. Wishing you all the best with your move," tweeted Manchester United (@ManUtd) on August 21, 2024.
Pellistri’s departure makes him the tenth player to leave Manchester United during this transfer window. Manager Erik ten Hag is still looking to strengthen his squad ahead of the new season. The club has shown interest in Paris Saint-Germain's Manuel Ugarte to enhance their midfield options after reportedly ending their pursuit of Adrien Rabiot following his departure from Juventus in June.
Facundo Pellistri's move marks another significant change for Manchester United as they prepare for the upcoming campaign. With new signings anticipated, fans are eager to see how these changes will shape the team's performance.
