FC Bengaluru United set to play IFL Home Matches at Bangalore Football Stadium, but it Comes with a Concern

FC Bengaluru United are likely to play their home matches in the upcoming Indian Football League (IFL) season at the Bangalore Football Stadium (BFS), with the Bengaluru club indicating that the venue remains its preferred option.

According to a report by Deccan Herald, FC Bengaluru United had explored alternatives after playing their previous home matches at the limited-capacity Padukone-Dravid Centre for Sports Excellence. The club had also considered moving its home fixtures outside Bengaluru, or even outside Karnataka, in search of a more financially viable venue.

However, with the IFL season set to begin on October 30, a move away from Bengaluru now appears unlikely. The club has informed the All India Football Federation (AIFF) that BFS remains its preferred venue, the report stated.

There is, however, a major hurdle. The Bangalore Football Stadium requires significant renovation and currently does not meet all the requirements prescribed under AIFF's stadium regulations.

The report suggests that the regulations require IFL venues to satisfy a range of structural and operational criteria, including standards for the playing field, floodlights, dressing rooms, media facilities, spectator areas and medical infrastructure. Violations can also attract a minimum fine of Rs 20,000, with the penalty doubling for subsequent offences.

Despite these shortcomings, FC Bengaluru United officials are hopeful that the AIFF will provide some leeway, given the limited venue options available in Bengaluru and the short time remaining before the season begins.

The Bengaluru club earned promotion to the IFL after finishing second in the 2025-26 I-League 2, with AIFF confirming its promotion alongside champions Delhi FC.

The 2026-27 IFL will feature 11 clubs and will be played in a full-fledged home-and-away format, beginning on October 30.

The club, who will be coached by former India player Nallappan Mohanraj, have big hopes ahead of the new season. They are also the second club from the Garden City to play in the top two tiers in Indian football, as Bengaluru FC are the traditional powerhouses plying their trades in Indian Super League (ISL).
