FC Goa have announced that Spanish midfielder Borja Herrera has signed a one-year contract extension, keeping him with the club until the end of the 2025-26 season.
Since joining FC Goa, Herrera has become an important part of the midfield, recognized for his vision, technical skills, and versatility. His consistent performance and professionalism have made him well-regarded among teammates and fans alike.

Herrera expressed satisfaction with his decision to stay, noting that he has developed his best form at the club thanks to the support from the team, coaching staff, and fans. He also mentioned his interest in participating in Asian competitions, something he was unable to do last year despite East Bengal's qualification.
At 32 years old, Herrera is entering his second full season with FC Goa, having initially joined on loan in January 2024 before completing the entire 2024-25 campaign. During his time with the club, he contributed significantly, recording 10 goal involvements last season, including a hat-trick against East Bengal that secured the team's first win of the season. He also scored four goals in the Kalinga Super Cup, including two in the final, helping FC Goa qualify for continental competition.
Lokesh Bherwani, FC Goa's Director of Football, highlighted Herrera's professionalism, versatility, and leadership qualities. He emphasized that Herrera's experience and ability to influence games are valuable assets for the team's ambitions in the upcoming season.
Herrera has a strong rapport with Head Coach Manolo Marquez, having worked together previously at Hyderabad FC and during their time in Spain at UD Las Palmas. Marquez has praised Herrera's understanding of the Indian Super League and his adaptable playing style.
