Liverpool agree Federico Chiesa deal with Juventus - Which shirt number the Italy international can get?

Federico Chiesa is poised to become Liverpool's latest acquisition after the club reached an agreement with Juventus for a deal that could total £12.5 million.

The Italian winger is set to undergo a medical on Merseyside, with the transfer marking Liverpool’s first significant signing under new head coach Arne Slot.

Chiesa’s future at Juventus had been uncertain for some time, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season. Juventus manager Thiago Motta recently confirmed that Chiesa would not be part of his plans moving forward, prompting the club to put the player on the market.

Although Barcelona and AC Milan were initially linked with the 25-year-old, it is Liverpool who have secured his signature.

Liverpool's summer transfer activity had been relatively quiet, with fans growing increasingly frustrated after the club's unsuccessful pursuit of Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi.

The capture of Chiesa, however, could prove to be a smart and strategic move by the new-look Liverpool hierarchy, bolstering the squad with a player of proven quality and international experience.

Chiesa joined Juventus permanently in July 2022 after a successful two-year loan spell from Fiorentina, in a deal worth £42 million. During his time in Turin, Chiesa made over 131 appearances, scoring 32 goals and providing 23 assists making him a coveted star.

As Chiesa prepares to don the famous red shirt, speculation has already begun regarding which number he will take at Liverpool.

Federico Chiesa Possible Liverpool Jersey Number

At Juventus, Chiesa has worn the No. 7 jersey, but that number currently belongs to Luis Diaz at Liverpool. Given Diaz's importance to the team, it is unlikely that the Colombian will release the number.

For the Italian national team, Chiesa has consistently worn the No. 14 jersey, a number that has been vacant at Liverpool since Jordan Henderson's departure in 2023. This could be a strong candidate for Chiesa's new shirt.

Other available numbers at Liverpool include 6, 12, 13, 15, and 16, as well as 23, 24, 25, 27, 28, and 29. However, since Chiesa has not been associated with these numbers in recent times, it seems likely that he will opt for Henderson's former No. 14 jersey.
