Felix Nmecha World Cup Display Drives Manchester United Transfer Interest
Gary Neville expects a major fee will be needed for Felix Nmecha if any move happens this summer. The former Manchester United defender has been impressed by Nmecha’s displays for Germany at the World Cup, which have increased interest from leading European clubs, including Manchester United and Real Madrid.
Neville’s assessment followed Germany’s victory over Ivory Coast, where Nmecha delivered a standout midfield performance. Neville told ITV: "The more he plays like he did [against Ivory Coast], the more expensive hell get, Neville told ITV." Neville added further praise, saying: "He looked outstanding. It looked like he had absolutely everything."

Nmecha has become a key figure for Borussia Dortmund during the current season, which is Nmecha’s third with the club. The 25-year-old scored six goals and registered three assists across 47 matches in all competitions. That output, combined with strong World Cup form, has helped put Nmecha on shortlists for Manchester United and Real Madrid.
The midfielder joined Borussia Dortmund from Wolfsburg in 2023 after progressing through Manchester City’s academy system. Performances for Germany at the World Cup, especially against Ivory Coast, have reinforced the seen potential. Neville’s comments reflect a wider belief that any future transfer involving Nmecha may demand a substantial fee from Manchester United or Real Madrid.
Manchester United are working on several midfield options while tracking Nmecha’s situation. Reports in England suggest a move for Ederson is close, adding another central option. The club have also been connected with Real Madrid midfielder Tchouameni, showing a broader search for upgrades in that area.
Manchester United will start the 2026/27 Premier League season, the first full campaign under Michael Carrick, with two fixtures against promoted opponents. The opening match comes away to Hull City on 22 August. A week later, Manchester United host Ipswich Town at Old Trafford as Carrick looks for a strong early start.
| Competition | Season | Fixture | Date | Venue |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Premier League | 2026/27 | Hull City vs Manchester United | 22 August 2026 | Away |
| Premier League | 2026/27 | Manchester United vs Ipswich Town | 29 August 2026 | Home |
Nmecha’s club numbers, World Cup impact and background at Manchester City help explain interest from Manchester United and Real Madrid. Neville’s public praise highlights how performances on the biggest stage can influence a player’s valuation, while Manchester United’s wider midfield plans continue alongside preparations for Michael Carrick’s first full season.
