Manchester United's head coach, Ruben Amorim, acknowledged that Bruno Fernandes' red card significantly impacted their 2-0 defeat to Wolves on Boxing Day. This marked Amorim's fifth loss in seven matches. Matheus Cunha and substitute Hwang Hee-Chan scored in the second half, continuing Vitor Pereira's winning streak. Fernandes received a second yellow card for a foul on Nelson Semedo shortly after halftime, leaving United with ten players.
Fernandes' dismissal was pivotal as the match was goalless at Molineux when it occurred. Amorim expressed that recovering from such a setback was challenging. "The sending off was really hard for us," Amorim told Amazon Prime. "It's so tough to win games in this league with 11 men. With 10 men, it's more difficult. We have to focus on that."

United has struggled recently, losing four of their last five Premier League games, matching their total defeats from the previous 15 matches (W7 D4). Only Everton and Southampton have failed to score in more games this season than United's seven.
Amorim is the first United manager since Walter Crickmer in January 1932 to lose five of his first ten matches across all competitions. Despite believing his team controlled parts of the game, they failed to challenge Wolves' goalkeeper Jose Sa effectively.
"I think we were always in control of the game, not always dominating, but in control of some things," Amorim said. "We have to improve the relationships, but we have some moments. We lack a little bit of aggression, but we don't train."
Amorim also mentioned there had been no change regarding Marcus Rashford's situation since being left out of the squad. Rashford has missed four consecutive matches due to this decision.
"It's always the same reason it's going to be," Amorim stated about Rashford's absence. "We have to be the same professionals, the same guys, winning or losing. Losing, I have to be stronger." When asked if Rashford had shown any change since being excluded, he replied: "If he's not here, you can make your mind up."
The challenges faced by Manchester United under Ruben Amorim highlight the difficulties of maintaining form amidst player dismissals and squad changes. The team's recent performance reflects these struggles as they aim for improvement in upcoming fixtures.
