Pascal Bosschaart, the interim coach for Feyenoord, had an impressive debut as he led the team to a 1-0 victory against AC Milan in the Champions League. This win came shortly after Feyenoord parted ways with Brian Priske due to inconsistent performances. Bosschaart, previously managing the under-21 squad, stepped up just two days before this crucial match.
Feyenoord's decision to change coaches was influenced by their standing in the Eredivisie, where they were fifth and trailing Ajax by 12 points. Despite domestic struggles, Feyenoord has shown promise in the Champions League, including a notable 3-0 triumph over Bayern Munich and a comeback draw against Manchester City.

Bosschaart's leadership saw Igor Paixao score early, securing a vital win over Sergio Conceicao's team. This victory marked Feyenoord's first knockout stage win in the European Cup/Champions League since defeating Coleraine in 1974-75. The gap of 50 years and 133 days is a record for the longest wait between wins at this stage.
Bosschaart became only the third Feyenoord manager to win his first Champions League game with the club. He follows Leo Beenhakker, who achieved this feat against Juventus in November 1997, and Arne Slot, who did so against Celtic in September 2023.
"I don't dream very often," Bosschaart said after his promotion from managing Feyenoord's under-21s. "But this is a scenario you hope for." He praised the staff's planning and his ability to add personal touches to their strategy. "This was a team effort," he added, commending both defensive solidity and attacking tactics involving wingers.
The interim coach highlighted previous strong performances by the team, emphasizing their fight and passion. "The boys have also played some great matches before," he noted. His approach focused on reducing pressure and boosting players' confidence.
The narrow win over Milan is seen as just the beginning of their journey. Bosschaart acknowledged that while they could have won 2-0, they are now in a favourable position heading into next week's second leg. "We are by no means safe," he stated, indicating that more work lies ahead.
The victory not only boosts morale but also sets a positive tone for future matches under Bosschaart's guidance. As Feyenoord prepares for upcoming challenges, maintaining momentum will be crucial for continued success in both domestic and European competitions.
