Football is something that brings out the craziest of emotions among people, and when it comes to World Cup Football, the emotional rollercoaster goes up several notches across the world.
Even in countries which don't participate in it, the World Cup means a lot, a lot more than one can imagine. But perhaps the so-called policymakers at the top of FIFA are unaware - or they don't care at all.

The FIFA president Gianni Infantino's latest brainchild, the introduction of a Super Bowl-style halftime show during the FIFA World Cup 2026 final, is nothing short of an absurd, tone-deaf cash grab that completely disregards the soul of football.
"I can confirm the first ever half-time show at a FIFA World Cup final in New York New Jersey, in association with Global Citizen. This will be a historic moment for the FIFA World Cup and a show befitting the biggest sporting event in the world," Infantino announced on his Instagram on Wednesday.
The World Cup next year will be spread across USA, Canada and Mexico - with the final set to be played at the United States. And perhaps to latch onto the US moneymaking policy, Infantino decided to nod the half-time show.
It is a desperate attempt to Americanize the most beloved sport on the planet and an insult to the fans who cherish the game for its purity, drama, and uninterrupted intensity.
The beauty of football lies in its uninterrupted rhythm, its relentless momentum, and the raw emotions that build over the course of 90 minutes (or more). Halftime is a sacred 15-minute period, meant for tactical adjustments, catching one's breath, and mentally preparing for the battle ahead. The corporate-sponsored musical performance will serve no purpose other than bloating FIFA's already grotesque commercial portfolio. This unnecessary spectacle threatens to disrupt the very essence of the game, turning a globally revered sporting event into a shallow, commercialized carnival.
Infantino's attempt to compare the World Cup final with the Super Bowl is laughable at best and downright offensive at worst. The Super Bowl, a largely American event, thrives on its halftime show because American football is a sport plagued with endless stoppages, commercial breaks, and constant interruptions. The game itself moves at a snail's pace, allowing time for its audience to be spoon-fed an entertainment spectacle to fill the void.
Football, on the other hand, is defined by its fluidity, its organic drama, and the way it keeps fans on the edge of their seats from the first whistle to the last. It does not require manufactured entertainment to hold the audience's attention. The World Cup final, watched by billions, is already the most electrifying, emotionally charged event in all of sports events, and it absolutely doesn't require any farcical shows.
And what about the players? Imagine reaching the pinnacle of footballing achievement, the World Cup final, only to have your focus derailed by a gaudy pop concert in the middle of the match.
Imagine about the fans of the two nations - if the half-time scoreline is not kind to one team, they will have to endure the pop show, just because Mr. Infantino and FIFA want to earn the bucks!
Infantino's obsession with Americanizing football is misguided and reeks of corporate greed. The World Cup does not need gimmicks, distractions, or unnecessary flashy entertainment shows. The fans don't want it, the players don't need it, and the game itself certainly doesn't benefit from it.
Football is not just a sport, it embodies the emotions of millions on the earth. And when it comes to World Cup, they run on a different level. If FIFA truly cared about the integrity of football, they would abandon this ludicrous idea before it tarnishes the greatest sporting event on Earth.
