The FIFA Club World Cup 2025, hosted across 12 cities in the United States from June 14 to July 13, has reached a thrilling juncture as the group stage nears its conclusion.

With an expanded 32-team format, the tournament has showcased intense competition among clubs from six confederations. As of June 23, 2025, several teams have secured their places in the Round of 16, while others have been eliminated following the first two matchdays of the group stage.

FIFA Club World Cup 2025

The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup features eight groups of four teams, with the top two from each advancing to the Round of 16. The group stage, running from June 14 to June 26, is played in a single-game round-robin format. The knockout phase, beginning June 28, follows a single-elimination structure through to the final on July 13 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

FIFA Club World Cup 2025: Who have qualified for Round of 16?

So far, four teams have advanced to the Round of 16 stages in the Club World Cup 2025.

  • Flamengo (Brazil, CONMEBOL): The 2022 Copa Libertadores champions have dominated Group D, defeating Espérance de Tunis (2-0) and Chelsea (3-1) in Philadelphia. Their attacking prowess and defensive solidity have ensured early qualification.
  • Bayern Munich (Germany, UEFA): The German giants clinched their spot in Group C with a late winner against Boca Juniors (1-0) in Miami, following a strong performance against Auckland City. Their experience in high-stakes competitions has shone through.
  • Manchester City (England, UEFA): The defending Club World Cup champions (2023) have been ruthless in Group G, securing victories over Wydad AC (2-0) and Al Ain (6-0). Their depth and tactical discipline make them favorites to go deep.
  • Juventus (Italy, UEFA): The Italian side has impressed in Group G, notably thrashing Al Ain (5-0) and Wydad AC (4-1). Their consistent performances have locked in their knockout stage berth.

These four teams have guaranteed advancement due to their perfect or near-perfect records after two matches. Other teams, such as Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, and Inter Milan, are in strong positions but await confirmation pending their final group stage fixtures.

Club World Cup 2025: Who have Eliminated from the Tournament?

The group stage has already claimed several casualties, with six teams mathematically eliminated after failing to secure enough points in their first two matches. The confirmed eliminated teams are-

  • Auckland City FC (New Zealand, OFC): The Oceania representatives struggled in Group C, suffering heavy defeats, including a 6-0 loss to Benfica in Orlando. Their elimination highlights the competitive disparity between OFC and other confederations.
  • Los Angeles FC (United States, CONCACAF): Despite a dramatic qualification via a playoff against Club América, LAFC faltered in Group D, losing to Chelsea (2-0) and Espérance de Tunis (1-0). Their exit is a blow to CONCACAF’s hopes.
  • Urawa Red Diamonds (Japan, AFC): The 2022 AFC Champions League winners were outclassed in Group E, falling to River Plate (3-1) and Inter Milan (2-1) in Seattle. Their elimination marks a disappointing campaign.
  • Ulsan HD FC (South Korea, AFC): The Korean side, qualified via AFC rankings, managed only losses against Mamelodi Sundowns (1-0) and Fluminense (4-2) in Group F. Their early exit weakens AFC representation.
  • Pachuca (Mexico, CONCACAF): The 2024 CONCACAF Champions League winners stumbled in Group H, losing to FC Salzburg (2-1) and Real Madrid (3-1). Their elimination is a surprise given their regional pedigree.
  • Wydad AC (Morocco, CAF): The 2022 CAF Champions League winners were overwhelmed in Group G, conceding heavily to Manchester City (2-0) and Juventus (4-1).
