FIFA Proposes $6.3 Billion Soccer Development Fund, Offering $25 Million to Each Member Association

New Delhi, Oct 14: To develop football from the grassroots, the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) has proposed a USD 6.35 billion fund to develop the game between 2027 and 2030. It will also include USD 25 million for every national association.

The world governing body of soccer, in a recent statement, said that they are looking to utilise the financial dividends from the success of the FIFA World Cup 2026 to "to enhance investment in football development across 211 FIFA member associations, confederations and other stakeholders."

FIFA Proposes 6 3 Billion Soccer Development Fund Offering 25 Million to Each Member Association

Earlier, the global football association had proposed a sum of USD 10 million to each association over a period of four years. However, the financial boom from the FIFA World Cup has increased this amount, and the global football association is ready to pledge more money "based on the unprecedented commercial" success of its 48-team World Cup.

European football leaders are actively searching for a challenger to unseat FIFA President Gianni Infantino ahead of his re-election bid. The opposition was triggered in July by Infantino's controversial plan to bring private investment into the World Cup, a proposal quickly abandoned following intense backlash.

In response to mounting scrutiny, FIFA unveiled a counter-proposal offering $99 million to each of the six regional confederations. According to FIFA, this plan-set for council review in December 2026 before heading to the 77th FIFA Congress in March 2027-would more than double development funding for 2027-2030, targeting youth and women's football.

However, tensions remain high. UEFA has escalated the conflict by preparing a Swiss criminal complaint against Infantino over potential financial mismanagement tied to the aborted investment initiative, while also seeking court authorization in the United States to access relevant records. With 55 voting members, UEFA represents over a quarter of the 211 national federations eligible to cast ballots at the decisive presidential election on March 18 in Rabat, Morocco.
