London, Dec 19: Manchester City youngster Phil Foden's dream run continues as the under-17 attacker has been named BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year.

He won the award by beating fellow countrymen gymnast Ellie Downie and Para-skier Millie Knight.

Foden won the golden ball award for being the best player of the recently concluded Under-17 World Cup tournament in October in India. He was also named the Man-of-the-match of the final after he scored twice and notched up a 5-2 victory following conceding twice in the first half against Spain.

He was also an important member of the England U-17 Euro squad which lost the final to Croatia before the World Cup.

But his outrageous talent mostly caught the eye of everyone including City manager Guardiola during the World Cup. The player already made the headlines earlier when Guardiola took him on their pre-season ahead of this season seeing his talent.

The Spanish manager now has promised the player of giving a lot of opportunities in this season and rejected all the speculations of sending the player on loan as he believes he can make differences in his team.

He made his Manchester City senior debut in November against Feyenoord in the Champions League and later also played some minutes in their 4-1 victory over Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur last Saturday.

"It meant everything," Foden said about being named the Under-17 World Cup's best player. "But I would like to thank my team-mates, without them it wouldn't have been possible."

Earlier young Sports Professionals like footballer Wayne Rooney, tennis player Andy Murray and swimmer Ellie Robinson received this coveted acclaim and if we go by the outcome of them, the future looks only bright from here for the young Three Lions star.
