FIFA willing to start Soccer Academy in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram, July 25: FIFA has expressed its willingness to start a football academy in the state, Kerala Sports and Youth Affairs Minister M Vijayakumar informed the Assembly today.

In a written reply, he said preliminary steps for setting up the academy had already begun. The objective of the project was to mould football talents in the state.

Mr Vijayakumar said the Sports Council had also started a'football nursery' for teaching the basics of the sport.

Initial steps had been taken to start a football academy in Malappuram District, he added.

In another written reply, he said the government also planned to popularise traditional games which had now lost prominance for which it would hold consultations with the Education Department on whether they could be included in school syllabus.
