Fortaleza (Brazil), June 29: The Netherlands versus Mexico match in the Round of 16 at the Estádio Plácido Aderaldo Castelo here witnessed the introduction of the cooling break for the first time in the history of World Cup.

The breaks have not been introduced officially and compulsorily for the 2014 Fifa World Cup and would be considered on a match-by-match basis.

The cooling breaks will last 3 minutes and implemented at 30th min in each half

These breaks would be implemented if the Fifa's Venue Medical Office recommends them after evaluating the climate conditions to the Fifa General Coordinator and Match Commissioner. The cooling breaks would be recommended given the temperature exceeds 32 degrees Celsius. The implementation of such breaks would be done by the match referee.

The duration of the cooling breaks would be of three minutes and the referee could implement them at approximately 30 minutes into the run-of-play in both sides of the interval (30th and 75th minute, respectively). Those three minutes would be added to the stoppage time at the end of each half.
