A New World Cup Tradition Begins: Spain or Argentina Will Receive Historic Championship Rings

The winners of the FIFA World Cup 2026 final between Spain and Argentina will receive bespoke championship rings alongside the iconic trophy and gold medals, marking the first time FIFA has introduced championship rings at one of its tournaments.

FIFA World Cup

The initiative brings one of North America's most recognizable sporting traditions to football, with the rings set to become a permanent memento for the world champions.

What will the FIFA World Cup championship rings look like?

Each championship ring will be custom-made for the winning team.

One side of the ring features the FIFA World Cup Trophy, while the other will be personalized to reflect the identity of the champions.

Every ring will be individually numbered, custom-fitted to its recipient and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.

Immediately after the final, the winning captain and head coach will receive temporary rings before the permanent versions are produced and presented at a later date.

How many championship rings will be made?

FIFA will produce a total of 2,026 individually numbered rings in tribute to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Of those:

  • 30 rings will be reserved for members of the World Cup-winning team.
  • The remaining 1,996 rings will be released worldwide as official licensed merchandise for fans.

According to FIFA, the winners' rings will be individually customized to ensure a perfect fit before they are officially presented after the tournament.

Spain and Argentina to contest historic final

The inaugural championship rings will be awarded after Sunday's World Cup final between reigning European champions Spain and defending world champions Argentina at New York New Jersey Stadium.

Spain reached the final by defeating France 2-0 in the semifinals, while Argentina booked their place with a dramatic 2-1 comeback victory over England.

The winning squad will now leave the tournament with three symbols of their achievement-the FIFA World Cup Trophy, gold winners' medals and, for the first time in the competition's history, championship rings.
