FIFA has set a new benchmark for football's biggest stage, approving a staggering $655 million prize fund for the World Cup 2026, a 50% jump from the $437 million distributed at the 2022 Qatar tournament. This windfall comes as the event expands to 48 teams across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, promising broader global participation and financial equity.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino hailed it as "groundbreaking" for the sport's community, fueled by projected $13 billion in revenue over the four-year cycle-nearly double the $7.6 billion from the prior cycle.

Plus, all 48 qualified nations receive a $1.5 million (₹13.6 crore) preparation bonus, guaranteeing at least $10.5 million (₹95 crore) per team. This progressive model addresses past criticisms of uneven distribution, where smaller nations often left empty-handed despite qualification efforts.
