The FIFA World Cup 2026 has entered its most thrilling phase. With 48 teams competing for the first time in the tournament’s history across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, the expanded format has delivered drama from the opening match on June 11.
The group stage has almost concluded with the top two teams from each of the 12 groups advancing automatically, joined by the eight best third-placed teams to form a 32-team knockout field.

FIFA World Cup 2026: Teams Qualified for the Round of 32
The 32 teams that have progressed represent a mix of football powerhouses and inspiring underdogs. Confirmed group winners and strong performers include defending champions Argentina, Brazil, France, Germany, England, Spain, Netherlands, Belgium, and co-hosts Mexico, United States, and Canada.
Other notable qualifiers are Portugal, Colombia, Switzerland, Morocco, Japan, Sweden, Côte d’Ivoire, Ecuador, Norway, Senegal, Cabo Verde (Cape Verde), Egypt, South Africa, Australia, Paraguay, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Ghana. These teams now enter a single-elimination format where every match is do-or-die, with winners advancing to the Round of 16.
Cape Verde, a World Cup debutant, have advanced to the knockouts, while Ghana and Paraguay have also scripted incredible milestone with their qualification for the round of 32. DR Congo have also scripted history with a place in the knockout stages.
