How do teams qualify for the FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 32?

The expanded World Cup features 48 teams divided into 12 groups of four.

The top two teams from each group automatically qualify for the Round of 32, accounting for 24 teams.

They are joined by the eight best third-placed teams, determined based on points, goal difference and other tiebreakers across all groups.

The knockout stage begins on June 28 before culminating in the final on July 19.
