"South African football has lost one of its brightest young talents, and our nation mourns alongside his family, his team-mates and the millions of supporters who watched him grow from a promising academy prospect into a full Bafana Bafana international," he added.

Adams started in the 1-1 draw against the Czech Republic in Group A despite learning that his grandmother had passed away only hours before kick-off.

Cause Of Death

No official cause of death has been confirmed by Jayden Adams' family or the authorities. The lack of clarity has intensified the grief surrounding the South African midfielder's sudden passing, coming soon after his World Cup campaign.

Jayden Adams Stellar Footballing Career

Adams began his professional journey with Stellenbosch FC before securing a move to Mamelodi Sundowns in January 2025. His stint at Sundowns proved highly successful, as he helped the club lift both the South African league title and the CAF Champions League.

On the international stage, Adams played a key role in South Africa's run to the semi-finals of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. His impressive performances earned him a place in Hugo Broos' World Cup squad, where he was part of the history-making team that reached the knockout rounds of the tournament for the first time.

"It's so incredibly sad to hear that South Africa midfielder Jayden Adams has passed away just weeks after featuring in his nation's historic Fifa World Cup campaign," FIFA president Gianni Infantino said.

"My thoughts and condolences, as well as those of everyone at Fifa and the global football community, are with his family, friends and team-mates. The Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns star will be sorely missed. May he rest in peace," the FIFA president added.
