FIFA World Cup 2030: Who will host the World Cup?

Morocco, Spain and Portugal will host the FIFA World Cup 2030. But three matches will be played in South America - one each in Paaguay, Argentina and Uruguay.

Morocco put a bid to host the World Cup at first and then they joined forces with Spain and Portugal. This is the first time the FIFA World Cup will be played across three continents - Europe (Spain, Portugal), Africa (Morocco) and South America (Paraguay, Uruguay, Argentina).

Six Teams to qualify for FIFA World Cup 2030 Automatically

Spain, Morocco, Portugal, Uruguay, Paraguay and Argentina - all the six countries have now directly qualified for the World Cup in 2030. It means Paraguay, who hasn't made it to the World Cup since 2010, will be surely coming back to the grandest arena in 2030, albeit if they don't qualify for the World Cup 2026, which is to be held in Mexico, Canada and the USA.

Why FIFA World Cup 2030 will have three matches in South America?

FIFA has awarded three matches in South America to mark 100 years of the competition. The opening three games will be played in the South American nations to acknowledge their contribution to the first World Cup as it turns centenary.

The World Cup started in 1930 and Uruguay hosted it and also became the World Champions. Argentina were the beaten finalists in that edition. Paraguay has been also handed an automatic qualification as the CONBEMOL headquarters are situated there. To be precise, CONBEMOL was the solitary confederation in existence during the 1930 World Cup.

What did the authorities say?

FIFA President Gianni Infantino

"In 2030, we will have a unique global footprint, three continents - Africa, Europe and South America - six countries - Argentina, Morocco, Paraguay, Portugal, Spain and Uruguay - welcoming and uniting the world while celebrating together the beautiful game, the centenary and the FIFA World Cup."

CONBEMOL President Alejandro Dominguez"

It's a historic event and CONMEBOL is happy. We're honouring the memory of those who came before us and today we're at the level. We appreciate again the confidence that FIFA and our colleagues showed for a historic event and date.

"The good thing is that in having three countries, three hosts, we're talking about almost no other investment more than what already exists. And that's very good news because we all know that in that context, unfortunately we're not able to compete if this had been a question of investment or money demands."
