World Cup Final Halftime Show Explained: 30-Minute Break, Performers, Timings and More

Reports claiming that FIFA will extend halftime to 30 minutes for the FIFA World Cup 2026 final to accommodate a star-studded halftime show featuring Justin Bieber, Madonna, Shakira and BTS have gone viral on social media.

However, FIFA has not officially confirmed that the halftime interval will be extended to 30 minutes.

The governing body has announced that the World Cup final will feature the tournament's first-ever official halftime show, produced in partnership with Global Citizen. The performance is expected to feature Justin Bieber, Madonna, Shakira, BTS, Burna Boy, Gustavo Dudamel and the PS22 Chorus alongside Coldplay, with Chris Martin serving as the show's curator.

Will the FIFA World Cup halftime show be 30 minutes?

As things stand, there is no official confirmation that the standard halftime break will be doubled.

Under Law 7 of the IFAB Laws of the Game, the halftime interval must not exceed 15 minutes unless competition regulations provide otherwise.

Some reports have speculated that FIFA could introduce a special exception for the World Cup final to allow for staging, performances and dismantling the set, drawing comparisons with the NFL's Super Bowl halftime show, which typically lasts around 30 minutes.

However, FIFA has yet to announce any amendment to the competition regulations regarding the length of the halftime interval.

Who is performing at the FIFA World Cup 2026 final halftime show?

FIFA and Global Citizen have announced an extensive lineup for the first halftime show in FIFA World Cup final history.

The headline performers include Justin Bieber, Madonna, Shakira and BTS, while Burna Boy will also perform after collaborating with Shakira on the tournament's official song.

The entertainment programme will also feature Gustavo Dudamel, music and artistic director of the New York Philharmonic, along with the PS22 Chorus, who are set to perform alongside Coldplay.

Coldplay frontman Chris Martin is serving as the curator of the halftime show, which FIFA says will promote the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, an initiative aimed at improving access to education and football for children around the world.

In addition to the halftime show, the World Cup final's closing ceremony is also expected to feature appearances from actor Tom Cruise, internet personality IShowSpeed, singer Robbie Williams, Nicole Scherzinger, Laura Pausini, while Jennifer Hudson is set to perform the United States national anthem.

When will the FIFA World Cup 2026 halftime show take place?

The FIFA World Cup 2026 final will kick off on Sunday, July 19, at 3:00 pm ET (12:30 am IST on July 20) at the New York New Jersey Stadium.

The halftime show is expected to begin approximately 45 to 50 minutes after kick-off, depending on first-half stoppage time. Most estimates place the performance at around 3:50-4:00 pm ET (1:20-1:30 am IST).

While FIFA has confirmed the introduction of the halftime show, it has not announced any official change to the duration of the halftime interval. Several reports suggest the performance itself will last around 11 minutes, but claims that the break will be extended to 30 minutes remain unconfirmed by FIFA.

As a result, the exact schedule for the performance-and whether the interval will be longer than the traditional 15 minutes-will only become clear once FIFA releases its final match-day operational plan.

Why are fans talking about a 30-minute break?

The speculation stems from the logistics involved in staging a large-scale live performance inside the stadium.

While several entertainment outlets have reported that FIFA could extend halftime to around 30 minutes, those claims have not been verified by FIFA. Other reports continue to describe the performance itself as lasting around 11 minutes, without explaining how it would fit within the traditional 15-minute interval.

Until FIFA issues official guidance before the final, the length of the halftime break remains uncertain.

For now, fans can expect the first halftime show in FIFA World Cup final history, but whether it will require an extended interval is yet to be confirmed.
