Filipe Luis Appointed Monaco Head Coach To Lead European Ambitions

Filipe Luis has been named Monaco’s new head coach, giving the former Chelsea and Atletico Madrid full-back a first role in European management. The 40-year-old Brazilian has agreed a contract running until June 2028, arriving after leaving Flamengo earlier in 2026.

Monaco turned to Luis after dismissing Sebastien Pocognoli in June, eight months into Pocognoli’s tenure. The club finished seventh in Ligue 1, ending the campaign seven points short of the Champions League places, which led to a change in direction on the bench.

As a player, Luis collected 44 caps for Brazil between 2009 and 2019 and secured league titles with Atletico Madrid in 2013-14 and Chelsea in 2014-15. That elite experience now supports the Filipe Luis Monaco head coach role, as Luis adapts to life on the touchline in Europe.
