Bengaluru, March 18: Manchester United beat Brighton and Hove Athletic in the quarter final of FA Cup with a margin of 2-0 to reach the semis of the prestigious tournament.

The victory was much needed for Manchester United after their shock defeat against Sevilla in the Champions League which knocked them out of the competition.

Here are the talking points of the match:

1. Lukaku And Matic struck for United:

Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic scored for Manchester United in the quarter final clash against Brighton and Hove Athletic. At 37th minute of the match Lukaku broke the deadlock for the Red Devils.

While, Nemanja Matic sealed the game for United with a strike at 83rd minute of the match. But, the Red Devils manager Jose Mourinho didn't look happy with the win as he slammed the 'lack of personality’ of his team.

2. Sergio Romero solid in goal:

David De Gea has always been the first choice Goalkeeper for Manchester United in recent years. But, Sergio Romero proved that the backup option in the goalkeeper position is also strong for Manchester United. United struck only two shots on target in the whole match. But their defence was solid enough to nullify the attacking threats of Brighton. The last man of the defence put up a great performance to keep a clean sheet in the match.

3. Luke Shaw subbed off at Half Time:

Jose Mourinho gave Luke Shaw a chance to play at the full-back position after many days. But, he was subbed off after the first half. Though, Luke Shaw provided the long ball to Matic who gave the pass to Lukaku for the first goal of Manchester United. Mourinho was seen being furious with Luke Shaw many times in the first half. As a result, Ashley Young took his place in the second half.

4. Alexis Sanchez and Paul Pogba benched:

It was a brave decision taken by Mourinho to keep Alexis Sanchez and Paul Pogba on the bench for such an important match. Sanchez has not done anything significant after his arrival in United from Arsenal in the winter transfer window. On the other hand, the relation between Pogba and Mourinho has been getting worse day by day. A condition of unrest is very much evident in the United dressing room.

5. Brighton not ambitious enough:

Brighton and Hove Athletic were not ambitious enough to win the match against Manchester United. Their first team Goalkeeper Matt Ryan was not in the squad in this match. The in form striker Glenn Murray was also not in the first eleven but came in the dying moments of the match. They were not able to take advantage of the disoriented Manchester United side after the shock defeat to Sevilla.
