Madrid, March 15: Being one of the best in the world does not only mean scoring in crucial games and having a great influence on your team, it is also about how much you earn. With Neymar and Messi earning a fortune almost every time they play, Cristiano Ronaldo didn’t want to shy away from them.
It was rumored that Cristiano was promised an astronomical deal following his brace against Juventus in the Champions League finals last season. But the deal couldn’t go through as Perez shifted his focus to land Neymar to Madrid.
Real Madrid have had a dismal season this campaign by their standards. They only have the Champions League to go for now. Cristiano has been sensational for Los Blancos with 12 goals in his eight matches this season, scoring in all eight matches.
Florentino has finally been convinced that Ronaldo indeed is indispensable to the team and is ready to offer him a new humongous deal. Ronaldo currently earns around £540,000 a week but wants parity with eternal rival Lionel Messi, who is paid £680,000 every seven days by Barcelona. The new deal is touted to earn him around £24mn a year from his contract.
Ronaldo seemed to have lost his touch early in the season, scoring just two goals in four months. But the turn of this year was a complete change as Cristiano has netted 17 goals in 12 games already.
