Florian Wirtz is determined to help Liverpool maintain their Premier League title, focusing on his performance rather than the hefty transfer fee. He joined the Reds from Bayer Leverkusen in June for a reported club-record fee of £116 million, potentially rising by £16 million with add-ons. The 22-year-old has already impressed, scoring in a friendly against Yokohama F. Marinos.
Wirtz made his Anfield debut during a pre-season match against Athletic Bilbao, playing 74 minutes in a 3-2 win. He led the team with six crosses and was only outdone by Mohamed Salah in creating chances. Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai were the only players to surpass Wirtz's 17 passes in the final third.

The German international has quickly adapted to life at Liverpool, enjoying his early weeks with the team. "Monday was the first time at Anfield also. I like it," he said about his experience at Anfield. Wirtz appreciates the freedom given by the manager, allowing him to find spaces and contribute effectively on the pitch.
His arrival has excited fans, especially after flourishing under Xabi Alonso at Bayer Leverkusen. During his time there, he made 119 appearances, scored 38 goals, and provided 43 assists across all competitions. In the 2024-25 season alone, he contributed to 30 goals.
Wirtz is one of six new signings for Liverpool this season. The club also acquired Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong, Armin Pecsi, and Freddie Woodman. Giorgi Mamardashvili joined from Valencia last year but spent last season on loan back with them.
The Reds are reportedly interested in Newcastle United's Alexander Isak but had an initial £110 million bid rejected. Wirtz believes having several new players join simultaneously helps them connect and integrate into the team more smoothly.
Wirtz acknowledges that retaining the Premier League title is challenging but remains focused on contributing both offensively and defensively. "I try just to create chances, also to work against the ball because I can also run a lot," he stated about his role in the team.
Looking forward to playing in England's top league, Wirtz is eager to adapt to its differences from Germany's Bundesliga. "I've not played a match in the Premier League yet," he said but expressed excitement about learning from these experiences to improve further.
