Phil Foden Sets Ambitious Goal Scoring Target Following Double Against Ipswich Town

Phil Foden is determined to continue his goal-scoring streak after scoring twice in Manchester City's impressive win over Ipswich Town. He reflects on his recent form and the importance of team cohesion.

Phil Foden is eager to increase his goal tally after scoring twice in Manchester City's 6-0 victory over Ipswich Town. Erling Haaland, Jeremy Doku, Mateo Kovacic, and James McAtee also contributed to the win. This result marked City's fifth consecutive league game without a loss, moving them to fourth in the Premier League standings.

Foden has been in excellent form, scoring more top-flight goals than anyone else since the start of the year. He has now scored in three consecutive Premier League matches for the first time since October 2022. Reflecting on City's performance at Portman Road, Foden described it as possibly their best this season.

Foden Aims for More Goals After Ipswich Win

"It's one of our best performances this year," Foden told Sky Sports. "In terms of all-round play, keeping possession at important times, and we defended well too. We are building momentum, keeping players fit is important. I put it down to people being in better shape and the team bonding better."

This season has been challenging for Foden, who didn't score in his first 11 league games. However, he achieved a personal best with 19 goals and eight assists during the 2023-24 title-winning campaign. Sunday marked his first time scoring in three straight league games since October 2022.

Foden sealed City's 4-1 victory against West Ham on January 4 and scored twice in their 2-2 draw with Brentford on Tuesday. He views his earlier struggles as a valuable learning experience.

Looking Ahead

"I learned everything from it [poor form]," Foden said. "It is good to see me back scoring goals with a smile on my face and enjoying football. I want to keep going and adding to that. You never know what can happen." His goal is to maintain City's position within the top four.

Next up for City is a Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain next Wednesday, followed by a league game against Chelsea at the weekend.
