Paulo Fonseca admits AC Milan must improve significantly after their 2-2 draw with Torino in the Serie A opener. The Portuguese coach nearly faced defeat in his debut match, with Milan trailing 2-0 by the 89th minute at San Siro due to a Malick Thiaw own goal and a Duvan Zapata header. However, Alvaro Morata reignited hope for the hosts by deflecting Tijjani Reijnders' long-range shot into the net. Noah Okafor's last-minute volley then secured a draw. Despite salvaging a point, Fonseca believes their performance highlighted areas needing improvement.Fonseca emphasised that the problems were not limited to the defenders alone. "I think it is a collective issue, it's not just about the defenders," he told Sky Sport Italia. He noted that their lack of high pressing in the first half made it easier for Torino to attack. In contrast, Milan's second-half performance was more aggressive. They won back possession earlier and created enough chances to win the game. This shift demonstrated their potential when playing with higher intensity.Alvaro Morata, who scored on his competitive debut for Milan, agreed with Fonseca's assessment of their performance. "It is not a great debut because we didn't win, and we wanted to send a message," he said. Despite this, Morata saw positives in their comeback effort. He added that if there had been more time, they might have secured a victory. "I think we still sent a message because the team was practically dead, and we still turned it around," he stated.
