Paulo Fonseca Critiques AC Milan's Decision-Making And Profligacy Following Goalless Draw With Genoa

Paulo Fonseca lamented AC Milan's poor decision-making and inability to score in a goalless draw against Genoa. Despite dominating the match with 22 shots, Milan struggled to convert chances, leading to frustration among fans.

AC Milan's recent performance left coach Paulo Fonseca reflecting on their missed opportunities and poor decision-making. Despite dominating with 22 shots compared to Genoa's five, the team failed to score during their goalless draw at San Siro. This match marked the club's 125th anniversary, yet it was the third time in four home league games that Milan couldn't find the net.

Fonseca expressed his thoughts to DAZN, noting that while the team played well and created many chances, they lacked precision in their final decisions. He emphasised that the players were eager to win but struggled with quality in crucial moments. "I think we played a good game and created a lot," he stated. "The players wanted to win, but we just lacked the goal and also the quality in the last decision."

Fonseca Critiques Milan's Performance Against Genoa

The coach highlighted that Milan's aggression without possession allowed them to recover many high balls and frequently approach Genoa's area. However, he acknowledged that their game suffered from poor execution in crosses and shooting, not just from forwards but across the board. Fonseca maintained confidence in his forwards despite these challenges.

At full-time, Milan faced boos from their fans after securing only one victory in their last five league matches. Fonseca understood the supporters' frustration, acknowledging their desire for a win. "It's normal for this to happen," he said. "We wanted to win for our fans, who are always with us." He recognised that both he and the fans were dissatisfied with the result.

The statistics underscore Milan's struggles; they have failed to score in three of their last four Serie A home games. This is as many times as they had failed in their previous 45 matches at Meazza.

Despite these setbacks, Fonseca remains optimistic about his team's potential. He believes that improving decision-making and execution will lead to better results moving forward. The focus now is on refining these aspects to convert opportunities into goals consistently.
