Wing backs are more attacking version of full backs whose starting position is more advanced than that of traditional fullbacks. Teams who usually play with three centre backs use wing backs rather than full backs and these players have the license to bomb forward as they enjoy less defensive liabilities.

In this article, we will take at various player roles for the wing back position. They are quite similar to the player roles available for the full-back position but because their starting position is different, they act differently on the pitch.

Wing back: The first role for the wing back position is wing-back who act as traditional wing backs and have less individual instructions ticked on. They enjoy great freedom of movement and act as a key outlet for their side while going forward. They can be used in attack, defend and support duties.

Complete wing back: Complete wing backs arr more attacking versions of wing backs and play almost right wide midfielders and have lesser defensive burden in comparision to the wing back role. They can both underlap and overlap as the game unfolds. They can be used in attack and support duties.

Inverted wing back: A wide defender with a difference, the inverted wing-back comes infield when their team is in possession rather than staying out wide. He acts like an auxiliary midfielder when his team is on the ball and create a numerical advantage in midfield. They can be used in support, attack and defend duties.
