Football Manager 2024: Knowing and managing your squad

We have already covered the Football Manager 2024 beginners' guide in six different parts. So, we hope you have got a good idea of how to start a save and implement the right things. You have probably started your first save as well.

However, the game is a learning curve and you are bound to make mistakes because it is not a very simple game. The game comes with a lot of complexity and these mistakes could cost you big. So, we thought we could discuss such a mistake people tend to make.

Football Manager 2024

When you start your save, you will have not only the first team but also the reserve and youth teams to manage. This can be overwhelming at start and is a bit tricky as well. You will not only have to manage things on the pitch but off the pitch as well. Keeping your players happy is a must for success and for that you will need to know your players really well.

Try to analyze all your players at the very start of your save. Try to find the players who will be building blocks of side and choose a tactic to get the most of those players. However, you will not achieve success with just a few players.

Will will need a solid and deep squad that will come in handy during the long season, especially with teams that play more number of games throughout the season.

Injuries, suspension, international games, tiredness and fatigue- all these will put a dent in your ambitions if you do not have a squad deep enough. However, having a too-deep squad can also impact negatively because squad morale will be down if players do not get their desired playing time. Try to trim your squad as per your needs and get rid of players you don’t need but you will have to do that carefully because too many transfers will hit your squad morale and cohesion.

Also, take a look at your reserve and youth sides and identify the players who you believe you will be using now or in the future. If you are not able to give your best prospects game time, loaning them out is a good option but playing a lot will improve their attributes drastically and fast-track their growth.

Some people have a knack of favouring young players over-aged ones, for instance, players above the age of 30. This can be a hit-or-miss thing but having too much youth without experience might turn out to be costly. Try to keep a decently deep squad but not too deep that players will start complaining about playing time. Also, try to use even your fringe players whenever possible especially against weaker sides so that they stay match-fit.

There is another important factor which is to carefully go through the registration rules of the competitions you are in. Every other competition has different rules and only signs players accordingly because if you sign a player and not register him, it is a disaster. So, take your time and go through the information the game provides which is in most cases self-explanatory. A pro tip here, do not make too many alterations to your side in your first transfer window no matter how tempting it might feel.
