Paul Pogba made a memorable return to football after 811 days, playing for Monaco against Rennes. Despite Monaco's 4-1 loss, Pogba's appearance in the 85th minute was significant. He replaced Mamadou Coulibaly, marking his first game since September 2023 with Juventus. Pogba had faced an 18-month doping ban and injuries since leaving Manchester United in 2022.

Pogba expressed gratitude to fans after the match, saying: "I was disappointed to lose this match, but in the end, it's still beautiful. Seeing the crowd stand up and applaud, I didn't imagine that. Thank you to all the fans who supported me." He emphasised his love for football and his determination to regain full fitness.

When asked about doubts regarding his return, Pogba stated: "Of course not, otherwise I would have stopped my career. I'm a competitor and football isn't over for me." He acknowledged the challenges he faced but remained hopeful due to his belief in himself and his innocence regarding the doping allegations.

Pogba's return is notable as he becomes only the fifth player this century to debut in Ligue 1 after playing for France's national team. He joins Lucas Hernandez, Steven Nzonzi, Eliaquim Mangala, and Lassana Diarra in this achievement. Additionally, he is the first with over 50 caps for France to debut in Ligue 1.

Regarding his future with the French national team and potential participation in the 2026 World Cup, Pogba commented: "That is very far away. I'm thinking about getting back in shape to help the team." He stressed that performing well for Monaco is crucial before considering international duties.
