Trent Alexander-Arnold Remembers Diogo Jota As 'Forever Number 20' Following His Tragic Passing

Trent Alexander-Arnold pays heartfelt tribute to his late teammate Diogo Jota, emphasising their bond and the profound loss felt by Liverpool FC after Jota's tragic death.

Trent Alexander-Arnold expressed deep sorrow over the tragic death of his former Liverpool teammate, Diogo Jota. Jota, who joined Liverpool from Wolves in September 2020 and played 182 matches for the club, died in a car accident in Zamora, Spain. The crash also claimed the life of his brother, Andre Silva, a fellow professional footballer.

Alexander-Arnold, now with Real Madrid, shared heartfelt words on social media. "It's so difficult to find the right words when your head and heart are struggling to accept that someone you care so much about has gone," he wrote. He highlighted Jota's devotion to his family and expressed condolences to Jota's wife Rute, their children, and parents.

Andy Robertson also paid tribute to Jota on Instagram. He reflected on their friendship beyond football. "The ones I'm thinking about most right now are the family. Their loss is too much to bear," Robertson said. He fondly remembered their shared experiences and described Jota as genuine and full of love.

Robertson reminisced about their time together at Cheltenham races and watching darts. He recalled Jota's wedding day as one of joy and love. "I want to remember his never-ceasing smile from that magical day," he added. Robertson expressed gratitude for having known Jota, saying he made life better.

Liverpool honoured Jota by stating that his number 20 shirt would be immortalised for his contributions to the club's success. His memorable goal during the Merseyside derby was highlighted as a significant moment in Liverpool's 2024-25 title-winning season.

Alexander-Arnold shared how challenging it was to find words amidst such grief. "Diogo, your family was your world," he wrote. He emphasised how deeply everyone felt the loss of both Diogo and Andre Silva.

A Moment of Silence

While away with Real Madrid at the Club World Cup, Alexander-Arnold participated in a moment of silence led by Xabi Alonso before training. This gesture was a mark of respect for his late friend and teammate.

The football community continues to mourn the loss of Diogo Jota and Andre Silva. Their impact on teammates and fans alike remains profound, with memories cherished by those who knew them well.
