Former Eng forward Wright backs seething Mourinho

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has expressed that Phil Jones taking six injections so he could play for an England friendly was ridiculous and that Jose Mourinho should be fuming at the situation.

Jose Mourinho was infuriated that Phil Jones had been given six injections to enable him to play during England's friendly against Germany.

Bengaluru, November 23: Arsenal legend Ian Wright has expressed that Phil Jones taking six injections so he could play for an England friendly was ridiculous and that Jose Mourinho should be fuming at the situation which prompt Jones' injury.

Jones got an England call-up for their recent friendlies against Germany and Brazil following a solid beginning to the season at Manchester United.

However, after only 25 minutes in the game against Germany, Jones limped off the game with an injury and later United manager Mourinho uncovered that ahead of the game, Jones was already carrying injury in his right leg and knowing that manager Gareth Southgate had gotten him six injections to enable him to play through the pain barrier infuriated Mourinho.

Since the injury, Jones is yet to appear for training and has already missed two matches against Newcastle and Basel. And while talking about the angry behaviour of Mourinho, former England player Wright has now come to Mourinho's defence and stated that Mourinho's response was justified.

"I think the doctors have got to take more responsibility, rather than giving a player of that calibre and a club of Manchester United's size, to get in touch and say something," Wright told.

"That is something that has got to be discussed between them, instead of him taking six injections to play in a friendly.

"I did it in the cup final in 1994. I took three, then another three for the replay, in a week, but not in one sitting. That was bad enough, that's why I'm walking around now with a fused ankle. But at the same time I wanted to play in that final.

"Phil Jones has got to say: 'For a friendly?'

"He [Mourinho] looked like he was seething and he should be."

Jones will most likely miss the next two matches, against Brighton and then Watford. Along with him, fellow defender Eric Bailly is also a doubt for these two matches, although, in their absence, Marcos Rojo or Lindelof could take their position in the centre of the defence.
